The LENSCRATCH Self-Portrait Exhibition 2011

Welcome to the 2011 LENSCRATCH Self-Portrait Exhibition. I am always excited to see how photographers choose to express themselves through self portraiture. A big thank you to all the contributing photographers for sharing your inner and outer selves, your humor, your life, and revelations. The genre of self portraiture is a universal expression of our humanity and ourselves. So express yourself!

This is probably the most amazing collection of self-portraiture by different individuals, many of whom I do not know, that I have ever seen. It's that freshness that makes this so welcome and seductive. So many inividual visions. Aline, I must give you the lion's share of credit for offering these opportunities, building such a viewership, and then editing not only your daily!!! columns, but also these colossal works that gravitate to you and your generosity of spirit. I am so honored to be part of this group. Thank you for all you do --
Mary Ann

There are some really great portraits here. I especially liked Frances Jakubek and Mike Spitz but first and foremost I'm struck by how generous you are with your time, Aline.

Incredible to see how people take images which depict themselves. They are all so different, just like individuals, love it and love you for putting it together xo

I was particularly amused by the Sara Friedlander photo, mainly because I took a similar photo of myself on Saturday using the side of the Frank Gehry-designed Stata Center at MIT. Though I think the surface of Stata is even more funhouse-mirrory.

Aline,
This was probably the best collection of images to date. Thanks for putting these on during the year as it gives us all a chance to share as a viewer and image taker....

One of the most difficult exercise to do ,because it is all the things you cant say about you when you are behind the lens

I just want to reiterate what was already said: it is an honour to be apart of this post for it does give a very poignant image of how differently we account for ourselves.
Thanks for your time and dedication to promote photography!

I feel the same way as Mary Ann Lynch - this is the most amazing collection of self portraits I have seen! This should be published as a book! I want a copy. Thank you again for all you do to encourage and support photographers. xoxox

Thank you so much Aline, for all you do in creating a photographic community and for encouraging us. It is an honor to be shown on your site. And the range of response to the daunting concept of self-portrait is stunning. - Erica

I'll second Catherine's comment -- this should be published as a book. . . Mary Ann

A book would be wonderful. The work here is so powerful. I agree with MaryAnn as well in giving appreciation to Aline for her hard work in this. Thank you!

A book would be, indeed, fabulous--for many of these exhibitions, BUT just putting the exhibition is so much work, I can't image trying to get tiff files and releases from everyone...if someone is interested, have at it! It could be a MagCloud too!

Thank you! This is inspiring. How could I submit in the future?

Keep checking on the Lenscratch home page (click on the photo of the paper dolls) for new calls for entry--there are several! http://lenscratch.blogspot.com/2010/10/lenscratch-exhibition-opportunities.html

Aline, How great it is to explore this collection and discover the unique way every person chooses to be preceived. I'm running out now, in search of myself and bring it back to you... : )
Thank you for sharing it!
