RayKo’s 4th Annual International Juried Plastic Camera Show

I have the great pleasure of having work in another RayKo Toy Camera Show, and I have to say, hands down, that the openings at Rayko Photo Center in San Francisco are the most energized, the best attended, and totally fun, fun, fun. This year, the 4th Annual celebration of all things plastic Camera will open on Friday, March 4th (opening from 6-8pm) and run through April 30th, 2011. If you are not aware of this terrific photo center, check out it's offerings, workshops, and submission opportunities.

Featured photographers Michelle Bates and Sam Grant will have a number of images on display and Michelle, who is the author of the Holy Grail of Toy Camera books/guides, Plastic Cameras, Toying With Creativity, First Edition, and Plastic Cameras, Toying With Creativity, Second Edition will also be teaching a Toy Camera workshop at RayKo on April 23 and 24th.

Wow, these are all very good...quite interesting stuff from plastic cameras. Used to do contact sheets in a commercial darkroom, and at the time I hated Holgas because there were never any frame lines. This has opened my eyes to the appeal of this medium and its potential.

Thanks James!
In some ways, the toy camera allows for more creativity--the ability to create double exposures, overlapping images, crazy angles makes taking photographs fun again. And in my humble opinion, the toy camera community is part of what is saving the film and processing industry!

The quality of all the images is indeed exceptional. I have always
loved that Alleman image in particular.

I have never submitted but always wanted to. I always shy away from any competitions for exhibitions out of state because of the cost of shipping and don't usually use plexiglass to frame my pieces. But maybe you have suggestions against that fear? The show looks great though! congrats! wish I could attend.

Valery! Use plexi...we all have to do it!
