EYEMAZING Magazine

When I think about what photography publication is the Holy Grail of celebrating cutting edge imagery, my first choice would be, without a doubt, EYEMAZING Magazine. If you've never seen one (they are sold in over 1,000 locations world wide with a readership of about 50,000), keep an eye out at specialized bookstores, museum shops, private galleries, newsstands, Art Fairs or Photography Festivals or better yet, get a subscription. The magazine is large, luscious, and regularly provides head-spinning images, strong layouts, and great articles from all areas of the photo world. I first set eyes on a copy of EYEMAZING a number of years ago, in the bookstore of the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles. I looked at page after page of amazing photographs, creating a lasting impression on me. I was fortunate enough to have work featured in the magazine at the beginning of my career and I still get a thrill to look back at that issue.

Each issue features the portfolios of established and emerging photographers and photography-based artists from all over the world along with interviews, articles on key photography festivals and events and reviews of the latest photography publications. Its high production values and unique approach make EYEMAZING more than simply a magazine: it is a gallery-on-paper, and a highly collectible cutting-edge photography bookazine. EYEMAZING has a large international circulation; its audience includes collectors, critics, curators, gallerists, artists, and leading art and photography professionals.

The magazine was founded in Amsterdam in 2003 by Susan A Zadeh. Susan started off in dance with 12-year career as ballerina with Het National Ballet, Amsterdam. After working for 7 years as a photographer, she founded and published Freeye Magazine, focusing on international fine art photography, and then went on the create EYEMAZING. She is the founder, art director, and editor, and the excellence of this publication is her total vision. Susan can be found traveling the world, participating as a reviewer at photography fairs and festivals, and is also a regular juror for many international photography competitions. In 2008, EYEMAZING won the Lucie Award for Best Photography Magazine.

I wanted to say a big thank you to Susan, on behalf of the photography community, for her commitment, her vision, her energies, and enthusiasm. It's not easy to keep a print magazine of such high quality going strong this today's market. And besides producing the magazine, she continually gives back to the world of photography through her support and encouragement of photographers.
