Judith Fox

California photographer, Judith Fox, never set out to create her newest body of work, I Still Do. The subject was right in front of her, and it was a difficult and sad subject to explore. Three years into their marriage, Judith Fox’s husband, Dr. Edmund Ackell, was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease. Over the course of the next ten years, Fox watched as the man who used to perform surgery, fly planes, and run universities, forgot how to turn on the coffee maker, place a phone call, or remember what his wife had told him two minutes earlier.

Longing to put a face on this disease, Judith started documenting the man she still loves. I still Do...Loving and Living with Alzheimer's is being published by Powerhouse Books in November, and an exhibition of this work is showing at The Southeast Museum of Photography from September 4th-November 7th, 2010, followed by a traveling exhibition. The book combines imagery with Judith's poetic writing, adding a sensitivity to this universal subject of loving, aging, and illness.

Judith has balanced two careers, one as a photographer and writer, and one as an entrepreneur. Her work is held in numerous museum collections and has also been featured in a wide range of media.
