Orville Robertson

New York photographer, Orville Robertson's, wonderful work is being exhibited at the Blue Sky Gallery in Portland during the month of September. A classic street photographer whose work reflects an eye for detail and pathos, he walks the streets of New York with camera in hand. Born in Jamaica, Orville has championed black photographers through his on-going curatorial efforts. He is the publisher and editor of Fotophile, the photography journal he founded in 1993. It's been a pleasure spending time with his nuanced work where contemporary life is placed in a historial, yet timeless, perspective and people not usually found in the spotlight are captured with dignity and insight.

How I photograph these scenes reflects who I am, where I have been, and where I am headed. My images are defined by the simple aesthetic of balancing a child's curiosity and informality with an adult's need for structure and meaning.
