John Stezaker and Bobby Neel Adams

While in New York last week, I had a great time at the Museum of Modern Art--lots of inspiring exhibitions, one being a collection of Recent Acquisitions in photography. I loved the portrait collages by London photographer, John Stezaker, who has been exploring the photographic collage for several decades. A few days later, I discovered the work of Bobby Neel Adams (thanks to Oscar Ciutat). His two series, Family Tree and Age Maps are thorougly engaging, shot on film, and produced without Photoshop.

Two photographs of the same person, from different periods of time (child to adult) are spliced together. In this fusion a jump-of-time is established at the tear.

Family Tree is a series of portraits of immediate family members, i.e. Father/Son, Mother/Daughter and even Father/Daughter. Families are photographed individually and then sized and printed at the same proportions.
